Brandon Pirri continues reign as IceHogs points king
ROCKFORD — Forward Brandon Pirri recorded a hat trick Wednesday, leading the Rockford IceHogs to a 4-3 decision over the Chicago Wolves at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
Pirri’s tallies were numbers 71, 72 and 73 as an IceHog, putting him second all-time in goals. He now has 206 total points in an Rockford sweater, the most in franchise history.
For the third consecutive contest, the IceHogs opened the scoring when forward MacKenzie Entwistle broke away down the left-wing boards at the seven-minute mark and buried his third of the season past Wolves goaltender Beck Warm. Less than a minute later, Pirri gave the IceHogs a 2-0 lead with his third goal of the season.
Wolves forward Phil Tomasino pulled the contest within one at 4:07 of the second period, beating IceHogs netminder Matt Tomkins with a one-time shot from the left-wing faceoff circle. But Pirri struck again at 7:53, pushing a rolling puck under Warm’s glove. He completed the hat trick with 5:50 left in the frame.
The Wolves turned up the pressure in the third period as forward Tanner Jeannot extended his goal-scoring streak to eight games at 3:53, his 10th of the season. Dominik Bokk added a power-play marker at 8:07 to again make it a one-gaol contest. Chicago then pulled Warm and threatened to find the equalizer. But the IceHogs locked down defensively and held off a late six-on-five attack to preserve the win.
