Local man charged with attempted murder

ROCKFORD — A Rockford man has been charged with attempted murder in a shooting incident Sunday in the 4200 block of Marsh Avenue.

Police say officers responded to the scene at around 7:30 p.m., and located a 26-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was transported to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Rockford resident, 24-year-old Zephaniah Howell, was taken into custody and lodged in the Winnebago County Jail. His is known to the victim, police said.

In addition to attemptd first-degree murder, Howell is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm. His first court date is pending.
