Rock River Disposal temporarily suspends bulk waste collection

ROCKFORD – Effective immediately, Rock River Disposal, the company that provides garbage pick-up for the City of Rockford, has temporarily suspended the collection of bulk waste–items such as mattresses, furniture and Freon-free appliances.

Normal collection will run as scheduled, and yard waste pickup begins Monday, March 23.

In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, residents are reminded to bag all general household garbage–not including recyclables–before placing it cans to minimize the risk of exposure to trash-collection staff.

“We will continue practicing the protocols and recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” Rock River Disposal announced on its website. “Again, these are temporary changes made in the effort to keep your community and our employees safe.”
