Rockford teen charged with weapons offenses

ROCKFORD – A Rockford teen has been charged with weapons offenses after a shots-fired incident near a west-side housing complex.

Police say approximately 12:40 a.m., Tuesday, Rockford SCOPE officers were in the area of Concord Commons and heard two gunshots and then saw a car quickly leave the area.

A short time later, assisting officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was occupied by Jaydin Jones, 19, and Thomas Brooks, 18, both of Rockford.

“Upon further investigation, officers recovered a loaded gun and shell casings inside the vehicle,” Rockford Police Public Information Officer Michelle Marcomb said in a release. “The recovered weapon was reported stolen out of Winnebago County.”

Brooks is charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and possession of a stolen firearm. He’s lodged in the Winnebago County Jail. Jones was cited for driving on a suspended license and released.
