ROCKFORD – A Rockford man who allegedly attacked another man inside a local retail store yesterday knew the victim, police reported.
At around 3:20 p.m., officers with the Rockford Police Department responded to multiple calls of a man waiving a gun inside Walmart on Northridge Drive.
Authorities say 51-year-old Donald Jarvis located a man in the produce section and began to batter him. As the victim’s 20-year-old son attempted to intervene, the victim pulled a gun and ordered Jarvis to stop. The store was evacuated as the incident unfolded.
The victim has a valid concealed carry license. His firearm was processed and returned to him. No shots were fired.
Jarvis was arrested and charged with aggravated battery. He’s currently being held without bond in the Winnebago County Jail.
