Victim in fatal shooting in Rockford ID’d as teen from Milwaukee

ROCKFORD – A 16-year-old boy from Milwaukee died at a Rockford hospital Thursday after being shot on the city’s west side.

Police say that around 7:45 p.m., officers responded to a shots-fired report near the 1400 block of Blaisdell Street. The teen was rushed to Javon Bea Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the case as a homicide.

“After further investigation, Rockford Police detectives do not feel this was a random act and there is no threat to the public,” Rockford Police Public Information Officer Michelle Marcomb said in a release.

The victim’s name has not been released.
