City of Rockford receives grant to complete Auburn Street study

ROCKFORD – The City of Rockford has received a grant for $120,000 to complete an Auburn Street corridor study.

Administered by IDOT using federal funds, the grant will look at Auburn Street from Springfield Avenue to the Rock River – the highest traveled, city-owned gateway from the west.

The study will aim to analyze different types of transportation improvements and community enhancements to address the corridor’s deteriorating infrastructure, implement the city’s Complete Streets Policy, promote a better sense of well-being, and improve the movement of economic activity in the area.

Public input will also be sought to develop a consensus for improving the corridor. Upon completion of the study, relevant items will be added to the Capital Improvement Program in coming years.
