One dead in Rockford shooting

ROCKFORD – On Saturday, July 25, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Rockford Police officers responded to the 900 block of South Third Street near Pope Street in reference to reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers learned that there was a large gathering of people in the area when a larger dark colored SUV drove by and fired several shots into the crowd.

Three victims were struck, two adult males and a juvenile female. A 17-year-old female and an 18-year-old male transported themselves to a local hospital and were treated and released.

A third victim, a 19-year-old male, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he died.
