Florida man accused of telling child ‘you now have coronavirus’
PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida man has been charged with battery after he allegedly got in a child’s face and said, “You now have coronavirus.”
According to police, 47-year-old Jason Copenhaver, of Redington Shores, Florida, was also charged with disorderly conduct. Both allegations stem from an incident that unfolded at a restaurant called Ricky T’s Bar & Grille Sunday, Aug. 2.
Authorities allege that Copenhaver approached the masked child and told him to take off the face covering. When the child removed the mask, Copenhaver allegedly shook the child’s hand and said, “You now have coronavirus.”
A criminal complaint states the boy told officers that Copenhaver’s saliva particles landed on his face.
Copenhaver says he does not know if he’s been infected with coronavirus because he’s never been tested.
