All Black Graduation held Sunday downtown Rockford

ROCKFORD — Conscious Coaching hosted the city’s  second All Black Graduation Sunday at City Market Pavilion.

The ceremony included live music, food, a parade, and guest speakers. Speakers included Rock Valley College President Howard Spearman, the college’s first Black president in its 56-year history.

The All Black Graduation honored students leaving elementary school, middle school, high school and college. It was the first graduation ceremony in 2020, as area in-person events were canceled because of COVID-19.

Other attendees included Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara, Illinois Rep. Maurice West, and Amber Black, an assistant principal at Jefferson High School.

“A big thank you to Tony Turner and Conscious Coaching for the graduation ceremony today,” McNamara said in a social media release. “Congratulations to all the graduates their parents and guardians.”
