Illinois COVID-19 tests exceed 50K in last 24 hours
SPRINGFIELD — State laboratories processed more than 50,000 COVID-19 tests over the last 24 hours, resulting in 2,295 new cases of the disease, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced Wednesday.
As of this report, there have been 211,889 positive and presumptive coronavirus infections in Illinois, including 7,806 deaths, in 102 counties. There have been 3,489,571 tests administered. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from August 12 – August 18 is 4.4%.
As of Wednesday night, 1,519 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 334 patients were in the ICU and 144 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
There were 25 additional deaths reported Wednesday.
Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, IDPH is now reporting both confirmed and probable cases and deaths on its website. Officials say reporting probable cases will help show the potential burden of COVID-19 illness and efficacy of population-based non-pharmaceutical interventions.
