Activities at Rockford’s Lockwood Park open through Oct. 31

ROCKFORD — Outdoor activities at the Rockford Park District’s Lockwood Park are available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays, trough Oct. 31.

The public is invited to take their families to the county for fun, the benefits of being outdoors in the fresh air, and nature while engaging in safe recreational activities at the northwest  Rockford Park, 201 Safford Road.

Activities include pony rides, wagon rides, Children’s Farm Barn visits, and trail rides. Patrons are asked to wear facial coverings while inside the Trailside Centre, Children’s Farm, and when social distancing cannot be maintained outside.

Children’s Farm Animal Barn visits are free. Information on fees and ticket purchases for other activities with fees is available at lockwoodpark.com or by calling the facility. These are some of the many family friendly low-fee and free activities offered by the Rockford Park District for the community to enjoy.

Staff-guided horseback trail rides through the serene woods of Lockwood and Page parks depart hourly from 10 am to 2 pm, and are $33 per person. Rides are for ages 8 and older; equestrian helmets are required, and are provided on site. Reservations are strongly recommended, and are taken at www.lockwoodpark.com and at 815-987-8809; a deposit is required at the time of reservation.

“Safety has been and will continue to be a top priority for the Rockford Park District,” The Rockford Park District said in a release. “The District has worked with and followed guidelines from the CDC, IDPH, Restore Illinois, and local health officials to develop procedures and protocols to ensure a fun and safe recreational experience. Safeguards have been implemented at Lockwood Park to reduce the spread of COVID-19.”

Lockwood is throughly cleaned routinely. Social distancing and face coverings coverings are required when appropriate, in accordance with recommendations  CDC and the Winnebago County Health Department. Complete.
