COVID-19: Rockmen Guardians remind public to wear face coverings

ROCKFORD — One of the city’s most recognizable pieces of public art is now part of a message to help citizens protect each other from the spread of COVID-19.

Along the Rock River, the Rockmen Guardians are now dawning coronavirus face coverings.

“They now have a new way to protect our community and a message to share: ‘Wear your masks!'” Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau Associate Director of Marketing and Communication Andrea Cook said in a release.

The Rockmen’s masks were created through an effort by the RACVB; Scott Clark, CEO of The Gaming Outsider and 4th Grade Teacher at Maud E. Johnson School; and Chris Behrensmeyer, manager of The Gaming Outsider and paramedic for ATS Ambulance.

The Rockmen are part of the Rockford Art Museum’s permanent collection.
