Police: Teen city’s 19th homicide victim

ROCKFORD — An 18-year-old man is the city’s 19th homicide victim.

Police say at approximately 9:40 p.m., Sept. 8, Rockford officers responded to the area of Webster Avenue and Green Street in reference to a report of multiple shots fired and vehicles fleeing the scene.

Officers located spent casings near the intersection of Webster Avenue and Berkley Street but were unable to locate any victims or damaged property. At around 10 p.m., officers responded to the 1900 block of Elm Street for a report of a male subject lying on the ground saying he had been shot.

Officers located the 18-year-old male subject suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim’s name has not been released.
