Finalists announced for vacant Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners seat
ROCKFORD — The Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners has confirmed five finalists to fill the vacant seat left by Julie Elliot.
Finalists are Shelly Best, Martesha Brown, Edward Geeser, Amanda Sink and Robert White.
The current vacancy will be filled by appointment of the Board, the appointee will have to run for the seat in the April 2021 election.
“Board members selected the most-qualified finalists, who will be interviewed by the full board at two special board meetings,” the board said in a release.
Meetings will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 5; and 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Webbs Norman Center, 401 S. Main St. Sessions are open to the public.
Finalists will be interviewed by the Board of Commissioners individually in public session. The board will discuss the results of the interviews in closed session following the Oct. 6 special board meeting. Upon returning to open session, the board has the option to announce their selection or hold the decision over until a later date.
The term of the vacant board seat concludes with the April, 2021 general election. At that time, the seat must be placed on the ballot, and a commissioner will be elected to fill the six-year term.
Julie Elliot resigned from the board Aug. 25.
