Local man accused of sexually exploiting child

ROCKFORD — A local man is charged with sexual exploitation of a child.

Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross said in a release Wednesday that allegations against Joseph Malone, 32, stem from an Aug. 24 report by the Department of Children and Family Services. As the result of that report, an investigation was initiated and Malone was developed as suspect.

The case was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office and charges were authorized. A grand jury later returned a single-count indictment.

Sexual exploitation of a child is a Class 4 felony, punishable by one to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by one year of mandatory supervised release.

Malone is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m., Nov. 17, in Courtroom B of the Winnebago County Criminal Justice Center.
