Police investigate Rockford’s 27th homicide of 2020

CORRECTION: The 33-year-old victim in the Oct. 22 fatal shooting on Chateau Lane is Rockford’s 26th homicide of the year, not the 27th. The correction was made after it was learned that a 3-year-old boy who was fatally shot Oct. 15 accidentally shot himself.

ROCKFORD — Local police are investigation the Rockford’s 27th homicide of the year after a 33-year-old man was fatally shot Thursday night on the city’s northwest side.

At approximately 10:45 p.m., Rockford Police officers responded to a 911 call for a possible shooting victim at a residence in the 3000 block of Chateau Lane. There, they located the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The man pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s name has not been released. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
