17th Circuit Court suspends jury trials until Feb. 1.
ROCKFORD — Beginning Monday, Nov.23, jury trials in the 17th Circuit Court will be suspended until Feb. 1.
All court facilities will remain open. All status hearings and bench trials will commence as scheduled
The announcement comes Tuesday afternoon, after Gov. J.B. Pritzker rolled the state back into Tier 3 of state’s COVID-19 mitigation plan.
“This is a step taken out of caution,” Chief Judge Eugene Doherty said in release. “We have been very successful in minimizing the spread of virus in our facilities, but we know that the situation in the community is changing. We must all be mindful of the risk.”
Parities to lawsuits will still be given the option of attending court remotely. In-person appearances will be subject to restrictions.
