Arrests made in connection with fire at Rockford’s Atwood building
ROCKFORD — Two men have been jailed, charged in connection with a fire at a commercial building on the city’s northwest side last month.
Rockford residents Sean S. Haug, 41, and Lawrence L. Vieau, 49, are both charged with criminal damage to property and burglary.
At 5:18, a.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, firefighters responded to the vacant Atwood building in the 2500 block of North Main Street and battled the blaze several hours. The building was a total loss.
The Rockford Fire Department conducted a follow-up investigation and developed Haug and Vieau as suspects.
“We would like to thank the Rockford Office of the ATF for their assistance with the investigation,” Rockford Fire Division Chief Matt Knott said in a release. “In addition, we would like to thank the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Rockford Police Department, Rockford Public Works, and various other City Departments that assisted with the response to and the investigation of this incident.”
Haug is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday afternoon. Vieu is set for a Thursday hearing. Their bonds are set at $200,000.
