Rockford officers respond to weekend incidents

ROCKFORD — The Rockford Police Department responded to several incidents over the week, including two armed robberies.

The first robbery occurred at around 8 p.m., Saturday Dec. 12, at Walgreens, 1201 E. State St. Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect, white male, about 5-10, entered the store and wandered the aisles before approaching the front clerk. He then implied that he had a weapon and demanded cash. He left the store and got into the passenger side of a silver four-door vehicle.

At 12:40 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 13,  Rockford Police responded to the Tobacco Outlet at 3219 N. Main St. and spoke with the store owner who reported that he was robbed at gunpoint. A man with a gun, a black male approximately 6-0, 250 approached the owner at the counter and demanded money and cigarettes. He fled on foot.

Police responded to local hospital at around 8:30 a.m., Sunday, and learned a 23-year-old man was being treated for gunshot wounds. Police say the man accidentally shot himself in the foot and was treated and released.
