Police ask for help locating Rockford murder suspect

ROCKFORD — The Rockford Police Department is asking for the public’s help locating a man they say fatally shot another man earlier this year.

Officials say an arrest warrant has been issued for 31-year-old Rockford resident David Cooper, who’s charged with first-degree murder.

Just after 4 a.m., Sept. 26, Rockford officers responded to the 1500 block of Rock Street in reference to a shots-fired report. There, they located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Cooper was developed as a suspect during the follow-up investigation.

As of this report, there have been 32 homicides in Rockford this year, the most since 1965.
