COVID-19 spoils IceHogs season opener

ROCKFORD — The Rockford IceHogs’ plans to kick off the 2020-21 season Friday at the BMO Harris Bank Center were spoiled Thursday as the Cleveland Monsters were deemed unable to travel because of COVID-19.

Instead of hosting the Monsters Friday and Saturday, the IceHogs will begin the season play at home Saturday against the Chicago Wolves. Game time is 3 p.m.

The AHL does not list whether a player has tested positive for the virus only that he has been placed in the league’s COVID-19 protocol.

Saturday’s game against Chicago will open the 22nd season of professional hockey in Rockford, the IceHogs’ 14th in the American Hockey League. Fans can watch all the action AHLTV and 23.2 Antenna TV WIFR. The game will also be called on SportsFanRadio 1330 AM, Sportsfanradio1330.com, IceHogs.com, and the IceHogs app.
