ROCKFORD — A Rockford man was arrested early Saturday on the city’s west side.
Reza Box, 28, is charged with being an armed habitual offender, possession of a defaced firearm, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, armed violence and intent to deliver cannabis.
Police say the charges stem from an investigation by Rockford SCOPE officers, who, at around 1:20 p.m, Saturday, Feb. 13, viewed an unoccupied vehicle near the intersection of Kent and Court streets. While investigating the exterior of the vehicle, a handgun with the serial number filed off and a fanny pack were seen in plain view on the passenger side floorboard.
A short time later, Box and another person returned to the vehicle and were taken into custody. During the investigation, officers recovered the handgun, which had a loaded magazine, more than a gram of cocaine, a scale, approximately 85 grams of cannabis and an undisclosed amount of cash. Box is lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.
