ROCKFORD — Mayor Tom McNamara, on Monday, presented a Supermarket Employee Day proclamation to a Megan Esmond, a 19-year employee of Woodman’s.
Monday, Feb. 22, has been named Supermarket Employee Day by the Food Industry Association.
As COVID-19 spread, the pandemic showed the world value of grocery store employees. They couldn’t work from home. They showed up every day so the rest of us could purchase our necessities.
“Since the Mayor couldn’t make it to every grocery store and thank every employee individually, we asked our Facebook followers to nominate their favorite grocery store worker, and we selected one at random to represent the group,” the City of Rockford wrote in a Facebook post. Thank you to all of our area Supermarket Employees!”
