Men rescued from ice floating down Rock River
ROCKFORD — Crews from the Rockford Fire Department rescued two men from a slab of ice floating down the Rock River Monday.
According to a tweet, crews began the rescue at around 2:15 p.m., near the Jefferson Street Bridge.
As the slab continued toward the East State Street Bridge, firefighters were able to reach it with an inflatable raft and row the men to safety just north of the Luther Center.
The men were reportedly fishing up river when the ice they were on broke loose and started floating away. No injuries were reported as of this report.
