Teens arrested after running from police
ROCKFORD — Three teens have been charged after a traffic stop turned into a police chase last week on the city’s west side.
Police say the incident unfolded at around 7:35 p.m., Thursday, March 11, when Rockford SCOPE officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the 500 block of Howard Avenue. The vehicle fled before its three occupants exited and ran from officers.
After knocking on the door of a nearby residence and there was no answer, the suspects were taken into custody. A loaded handgun police say the suspects discarded during the chase was recovered.
Coreyeon Young, 18, of Rockford, is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest. Two Rockford juveniles, both 17 males, were also taken into custody. One was charged with aggravated fleeing while the other was charged with resisting arrest and released to his parents.
