Rockford men charged with gun offenses

ROCKFORD — Three local men are charged with weapons offense in connection with separate incidents that occurred Monday in Rockford.

A approximately 10:55 p.m., Rockford Police SCOPE officers conducted a traffic stop in the 3500 block of Elm Street.

During the investigation, officers recovered two handguns, a magazine containing 47 rounds of ammunition, an extended magazine containing 21 rounds, and a extended magazine containing seven rounds. All occupants of the vehicle were detained. One man, DLeon Johnson, was taken into custody and lodged in the county jail.

Johnson, 24, of Rockford, is charged with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and various traffic violations. He also had an outstanding warrant.

At approximately 11 p.m., Rockford officers received a report of an armed man at Stockyard Rock Burger Bar, 908 W. Riverside Blvd. There, officers located Alejandro Alejos and took him into custody without incident. A handgun was recovered from the suspect’s pocket, police said.

Alejos, 36, of Rockford, is charged with aggravated unlawful Use of a weapon.

At approximately 11:15 p.m., SCOPE officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the McDonald’s on Harrison Avenue, when a male passenger in the vehicle fled on foot. He was taken into custody a short time later. Police say the man, identified as 22-year-old Armani McCullum, was armed with a loaded handgun that was reported stolen out of Rockford.

McCullum, of Rockford, is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
