Body found near Auburn Street, foul play not suspected

UPDATE: Authorities have confirmed that the remains found last weekend in Rockford belonged to 33-year-old Welsley J. Shaver, of Mendota. Shaver was last seen in Rockford Sept. 22, 2020, and reported missing Oct. 2, 2020. A cause of death has not been reported. Foul play is not suspected.

ROCKFORD — Foul play is not suspected at this time after the remains of an adult male were discovered on Rockford’s west side over the weekend.

Police say the remains were found Saturday in a wooded area behind Tacos El Toro, 3605 Auburn St.

The body appeared to have been there for some time.

An autopsy has been scheduled. Rockford Advocate will have more on this story as it develops.
