Joliet teen charged in Rockford homicide
ROCKFORD — A Joliet teen has been charged with first-degree murder in a fatal shooting that occurred near downtown Rockford Monday.
Amari Rathe, 17, is accused of shooting a 20-year-old man just before 5:30 p.m., in the 400 block of Division Street.
Officers responded to the scene and located the victim suffering from gunshot wound. The man died at a local hospital. His name has not been released.
Authorities say the shooter, who they allege is Rathe, fled the scene after the shooting and was taken into custody a short time later. A firearm was recovered, a Rockford Police spokesperson said in a release.
