Human remains found near Cherry Valley
ROCKFORD — Human remains were found near Mill and Newburg roads, the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office confirmed Thursday.
Officials say the skeletal remains were discovered about 5:20 p.m., Wednesday. An autopsy is scheduled for today. The Illinois State Police is investigating.
The discovery marks the third time in a month officials uncovered human remains in the Rockford area.
March 9, human bones that have not been identified were found near Bypass 20 and Illinois Route 251. A cause of death has not been reported. March 20, the remains belonging to 33-year-old Wesley J. Shaver, of Mendota, were found in a wooded area behind Tacos El Toro, 3605 Auburn St. Shaver had been missing since last fall. Foul play is not suspected.
