Police investigate robberies at Rockford bank, grocery store

ROCKFORD — The Rockford Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying suspects in two robberies that occurred on the city’s east side.

Police say the first robbery occurred Wednesday morning at Midland State’s Bank, 1700 N. Alpine Road, when a male suspect demanded money and fled the scene on a bicycle. It is not known if he was armed.

Just after noon, what police are calling an armed robbery occurred at the Aldi grocery story, 6650 E. State St. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot.

Police say the robberies do not appear to be connected.

No injuries were reported.

Security camera images of the suspect in the bank robbery were released Wednesday afternoon.
