Rockford Crime: Teens arrested in stolen vehicle incident

ROCKFORD–Two Rockford teens have been arrested after crash involving a stolen car.

At around 10 p.m., Sunday, March 12, officers with the Rockford Police Department located a stolen vehicle near Preston and Tay streets an attempted to stop it near Avon Street. Police say the car accelerated instead of pulling over.

Because of the snow and slippery conditions, the car slid off of the road and struck a fence on the east side of Avon Street. Several occupants then fled the vehicle on foot. Officers located three juveniles, and took them into custody.

Arrested were a 14-year-old male, of Rockford. He was charged with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, criminal trespass of a vehicle, resisting/obstructing and probation violation.

A 12-year-old male and a 16-year-old female were also charged with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, criminal trespass of a vehicle and resisting/obstructing.

The 14-year-old and 12-year-old were lodged in the Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center. The 16-year-old female was released to a guardian.

Names of the suspects are not being released because of their ages.
