ROCKFORD–A 28-year-old Rockford man, on Tuesday, turned himself in to police on allegations that he sexually assaulted a child under the age of 13, law enforcement officials reported Wednesday.
Over the past several months detectives from the Rockford Police Department Sensitive Crimes Unit had been working on an investigation involving the victim. The investigation was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, which subsequently authorized charges and issued a warrant for the suspect, Shanan Quinton Berry.
Berry surrendered Tuesday night, Aug. 22, shortly before 10:30 p.m. He is lodged in the Winnebago County Jail and charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and a single count of battery. Initial bond has been set at $200,000.
Berry’s last known address is 929 11th St. Apartment 1, Rockford.
