This Week in Rockford: Guests abound as aldermanic races near end

Candidates prepare for Feb. 28 primary

ROCKFORD–It was a crowded “This Week in Rockford”¬†studio for Episode 17.

The panel was joined by Second Ward aldermanic candidate Jonathan Logemann (D), 12th Ward candidate Barb Verni-Lau, and Ald. Karen Elyea (D), who faces a primary challenge in the 11th Ward.

An Auburn High School teacher, Logemann is vying for the seat currently filled by Republican Jamie Getchius, who has no opponent in the Feb. 28 Consolidated Primary. Logemann faces Aaron Tokarz and Ned Friel in the Democratic primary.

Longtime Rockford community servant Barb Verni-Lau (D) is running unopposed in the Tuesday election, and will face Republican incumbent John Beck and independent Kelly Goodmonson April 4 in the Consolidated General Election.

It’s a three-way contested primary in 11th Ward as Elyea vies for her third term on council. She faces Democrats Lisa Palmeno and Tuffy Quinonez. No Republicans or independents have filed in the ward, which means the winner of the primary will likely become alderman.
